Valentine’s Day, the other side

While my colleague Alex hates Valentine’s Day, I welcome it with open arms. I don’t really celebrate it, but it’s comforting to know that it’s there.

The color red, hearts, cupids, roses, chocolates– Valentine’s Day has been either:

+ Created by Capitalists for sentimental consumers, or
+ Created by people who desire what they don’t have…

It can be a cliché, a tiring once a year exploitation of our hard-earned money and feelings– But face it, it’s here. Whether you like it or not, Valentine’s Day will come and go once every year.

It gives people a reason to do something for the ones they truly care about but aren’t able to! It can be a bad excuse but… Look at it this way, when you have a crush and you can be really shy, at least you have an excuse that you can finally tell him/her or something of the sort.

It gives people a reason to do something for their relationships. They try to fix their problems, just in time for the holiday. Even if in the next day, it turns out that the actions are futile.

Okay… Maybe I’m not making a sound argument right now, but it can be true– It gives us a reason to do something special for our love ones and actually get away with it. You catch my drift? Or I’m not really making sense here?

=sigh=

My point is, Valentine’s Day is not just for the hyped, but for also those who truly love. The only thing is, I just hope it doesn’t end up just once a year.
